Our Point of View

Agriculture lies at the centre of four major global concerns: poverty and hunger; population growth; a demand for more and better quality food; climate change and environmental degradation.

This “perfect storm” of issues has created increased pressure on the use and productivity of land, the livelihoods of farmers, and the world’s ability to feed a growing population. The poorest countries are often those that are most reliant on agriculture, and poverty in such developing countries is largely rural.

Our Vision and Values

Our vision is to be the leading academic centre for research and advice on agricultural supply chains in Latin America. However, while our location is regional, our thinking is global. Our ambition is to share the lessons learned locally, with supply chains globally.

Our values are rooted in our origins. Quite simply, we believe that markets should work for the betterment of smallholder farmers. We believe in the primacy of independent research to establish evidence and assess impacts. And we believe in acting on that evidence to create value for all.

Our Mission

Our mission is to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers throughout Latin America. We do this through evidence-based research and strategic advice to the private, public and NGO sectors working in agricultural supply chains.
